The Mars Volta - De-loused In The Comatorium
This has been getting very good press in all the music press, and it is classed as cool prog in one big magazine. It is something very new and fresh, and was HMV's album of the week when it first came out. Guesting on bass is Flea from The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, and his playing stands out with slap and funk styles thrown in, but the drums for me are highlight of the playing dept. There is a lot going on in the mix, nice sounds remind you of The Lamb, but for me, tracks two and three stand out as the albums party pieces, Inertiatic Esp, and Roulette Dares (The Haunt of) being those very tracks. Produced by Rick Rubin, this will rank very highly in the awards at the end of the year, and it will be no surprise that it might actually pick up an award or two! A class album! Danny Mayo

Once
in a while, there is an album you will hear and you will end up playing it for
weeks afterwards. This is one such album. Ok, so what is it? It is a mixture
of, say, Geddy Lee sound-a-like vocals, bits of Van Der Graaf, Zeppelin, Floyd
and Dream Theater to make comparisons, but it is very up-tempo in many places
filled with loads of time changes and offbeats.
